Mountain Sweet-pepperbush (Clethra acuminata) - Shrub or small tree to 6 m. tall; leaves ovate-elliptic or elliptic to elliptic-oblong, 8-20 cm. long, tip acuminate, base broad-cuneate or rounded, margin serrulate, pubescent beneath at least on the veins; flowers secund, in usually solitary racemes 8-20 cm. long, densely pubescent; capsules ovoid, 5 mm. long, nodding.

Habitat:

Moist forests, heath balds, margins of rock outcrops at high elevations.
